Stress Busters - Just a Stab in the Dark
Oh no, it's happened again, how could I have slept through so many alarms? No time to look good, I must get straight back to the office.
If I'm late again that's it, it won't even matter that I didn't leave till midnight if I'm not back there in 15 minutes I may as well not go back and where are my keys and those reports? They have to be here somewhere, oh lord not today.
It's nearing 6am the working day has begun; cities are starting to buzz with suits and stilettos, empty pro plus, paracetamol and coffee packages left on benches - the only reminder to 7am that they were even there.
Its only 5.
45am but this is how around 25,152,061 Brits awake each day.
Dark circles rounding their tired little beady eyes, clogged up minds being rammed into action from espresso shots being hastily poured down the occupiers throats.
Shoes are slamming down on pavements, running to get the first train of the day, already checking messages and updates on Blackberrys and iPhones.
"Its now number 6 on my speed dial" 14 million people suffer from stress related illness with an increase of 90% of GP visits being subjected to these problems and side effects.
There are many ways in which people cope or handle it; yoga, prescribed pills, drink or even medication however now in 2010 scientists from Stanford University think they have found a vaccine to contest the effects of stress.
Dr.
Robert Sapolsky, professor of neuroscience at Stanford University believes he is close to producing a formula which would stop the need for prescribed pills and other alternative methods of relaxation and after a single injection could alter the brain chemistry to create a calmer mind.
All mammals produce hormones to help deal with stress, however humans are unable to use these hormones to do the same once the threat has gone.
This means humans have an excess of hormones produced which the body has to do something with.
This in turn can destroy brain cells and ultimately weaken the immune system along with mood swings which carry on after the event.
The jab is made up of a herpes virus which is used to neutralise the excess of hormones, therefore stopping the side effects of stress, but why start injecting other virus's into your body when you can look forward to the prospect that after stress comes the spa.
Why pierce your body and inject it with other viruses when you can take a few hours to yourself getting pampered from the outside in and the inside out.
It's the choice between a body rub or a body cut, pain or pleasure? Don't give your body more pain, let it relax and rejuvenate with your mind naturally, if spas were not so successful they wouldn't still be around since the roman empire; let yourself fall into the sumptuous surroundings of heaven it makes stress worth having.
