Why Do So Many People Get Stressed Out Over Christmas Shopping?
It's that time of the year again folks. Christmas is nearly upon us and that means the traditional shopping season is now well under way. There are a few strange people out there who actually enjoy Christmas shopping, but for most people it is a very stressful time. So why is this?
Well I think a major reason is because it is a very expensive time of the year. Gone are the days when kids would be more than happy to receive a few simple toys for Christmas. Now they expect to receive things like mobile phones, TVs, laptops, MP3 players and the latest games consoles. All of which are very expensive for the average family. Plus you also have to buy gifts for everyone else in your family, as well as friends and colleagues.
This is okay when the economy is booming, but the trouble is that most people are very worried about their job security at the moment, and others are having to tighten their belts because of the rising cost of living. Not everyone has a lot of cash to spend buying expensive Christmas presents.
That's why many people choose to put everything on their credit card and deal with it after Christmas. However this just brings added problems and more financial worries further down the line.
Another reason why it can be a very stressful experience is because it is just so difficult to know what to buy people. It is okay when you have kids because they will usually give you a list of things they want, but adults obviously don't tend to do this so you have to buy them what you think they will like.
There is also the fact that because adults have their own disposable income, if there are any products that they do really want, they will usually buy them themselves at some time or another. So you are always on to a loser right from the start.
As well as these problems there is also the stress of actually walking around the shops and having to push and shove your way through the hordes of other shoppers. Some people manage to avoid this by doing their shopping online, but there will inevitably come a time when you need to get certain items from the high street.
So what I am basically saying is that there are several reasons why Christmas shopping is such a stressful experience. With the recent recession and the fragile state of the economy, it is not going to be any less stressful this year either.
