How to Use Roses As Firewood
- 1). Allow pruned rose branches to dry and season for up to six months before being used to help start a fire. Newly pruned or cut rose branches are too green to immediately use in a fire. The water content within each branch will result in a smoky mess that doesn't help start the fire.
- 2). Cut well-seasoned, dry rose branches into lengths that match the size of your fireplace or outdoor firepit. This will allow them to be easily placed at the bottom of the fire in order to help ignite the larger pieces of wood that will actually create the heat in your fire.
- 3). Place crumpled newspaper on the first level of your prospective fire. Then place rose branches on top of the crumpled newspaper.
- 4). Place chunks of firewood---maple, oak or other hardwoods work best---in a teepee shape around the newspaper and rose branches. Light the newspaper. The burning newspaper should ignite the dry, seasoned rose branches, which in turn will begin burning the larger chunks of wood that will actually provide the heat source for your fire.
