Ant Control Advice
Poison spray or plain stomping is an all right solution that will help for 5-10 minutes but if you are at all sane, you want a more permanent solution.
When you are looking at ant colonies of up to half a million members of a species that has been around since before the dinosaurs you need to understand that you are outclassed.
You need people who study this class of insect and not just ants but all sort of 'pest species' and know how to remove this problem with the minimum impact on the environment.
In the USA area you are going to be dealing with many different types of ants.
The most common of these is the odorous house ant, the pavement ant, carpenter ant, pharaoh ant, and grease ant.
The preferred way to deal with ants is with baits if you can find their foraging trail then apply the bait in small quantities to the trail.
The ants are attracted to it and will eat it and take it back to their colony.
You can also supplement this with an exterior power spray around the foundation of the house.
The only ant that you have to worry about affecting the structure of your house is the carpenter ant.
These ants don't eat the wood they just move the wood from one place to the next.
You will find small piles of what looks like saw dust.
That is were carpenter ants are working.
The areas that they work in are closely related to areas of moisture.
Stop the moisture, stop the carpenter ants.
To understand exactly what you are up against here let us, for example look at the so-called 'common' cockroach.
Now there is nothing common about a species that will comfortably survive a nuclear holocaust and that is only the beginning.
Did you know that a female cockroach only has to mate once in her entire lifetime? She can store the sperm over her entire lifespan and has the potential to lay thousands of eggs just from that one copulation.
These creatures are ingeniously designed to survive so you need someone that, through professional study can think of out of the box solutions rather than the screaming, stomping and then suffocating on bug spray.
That bug spray has to affect your health in some way.
So in the end consider getting a professional pest control to take care of these problems, if it is geographically convenient and if you have an average to above average insect problem.
The money spent on them will probably save you much more compared to money that will be spent on 'of the shelf' bug sprays that are only a short term solution and who knows what inhaling these fumes will cost you in future medical bills.
Check them out on the internet and study what they, as experts on the subject have to say.
