How to Make Stacked Graphs in Excel

    Normal Stacked Graph

    • 1). Open the Excel 2010 file that holds the information you want to make into a stacked graph. Click any cell within the data table that you want to use for your graph.

    • 2). Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen, then click the "Create Chart" button in the lower right corner of the Charts area of the ribbon. A small Insert Chart window will appear.

    • 3). Select the overall type of chart from the list on the left side of the window. Only the "Column," "Line," "Bar" and "Area" chart types have stacked options.

    • 4). After you have selected a chart type, click the "Stacked" button, which will be the second button from the left, on the right side of the window. Click "OK" to create your stacked chart.

    100 Percent Stacked Graph

    • 1). Double-click the Excel file that holds the information you want to make into a 100 percent stacked graph. This type of stacked graph will always show each bar, column, line or area taking up the entire graph, but will divide them based on each data point's percentage of the total.

    • 2). Click on any cell in the data field that you want to make into a graph, then click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen.

    • 3). Select your desired chart type from the list of types on the left side of the Insert Chart window. The only chart types that offer a 100 percent stacked graph are the "Column," "Line," "Bar" and "Area" charts.

    • 4). Choose the "100 percent stacked" option, which will be the third option to the right. Click "OK" to close the window and create your 100 percent stacked graph.
