Silverado's New Front End

New Front End for Silverado 1500, 1500HD & 2500HD

2006 Silverado 1500, 1500HD and 2500HD models all have new grille design and a a power dome hood borrowed from Silverado 3500 trucks. Front bumper top caps are now painted to match the truck's body color.

Silverado 1500 Extended Cab, Short Box Models

New Silverado Configuration

An extended cab / short box configuration is new on the Silverado 1500 and available with either 2WD or 4WD trucks. The short box measures 5-1/2' in length, the same as Silverado Crew Cab models.
You can also get a standard 6'6" box or a long bed 8' box.

New Diesel on Heavy Duty Silverado Trucks

Silverado's Clean Burning Diesel Engine

A new Duramax 6600 turbo-diesel V-8 engine is optional on Silverado Heavy Duty models. When it's mated to the Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission it delivers 160 hp at 3200 rpm, while burning cleanly to keep emissions to a minimum.

More Hybrid Trucks Available

The Silverado 1500 Hybrid is available nationwide for the 2006 model year and Chevy says it delivers up to 10 percent fuel economy improvement. The truck's hybrid system uses a compact generator/electric motor which powers the vehicle under light load conditions, starting and stopping the gas motor as needed for additional power -- like pulling away from a stop, when climbing a hill, or at highway speeds.
The standard Vortec 5300 V-8 engine delivers 295 horsepower and runs the generator/electric motor, which powers four 120-volt/20-amp accessory outlets located under the rear seat of the cab and in the pickup bed.

Alternative Fuel There's a new hybrid truck, but the Silverado is also available in alternative-fuel variations. Trucks equipped with the Vortec 6000 6.0L V-8 come with a dedicated compressed natural gas or bi-fuel system that can run on CNG or gasoline.

Light duty Silverado models with the Vortec 5300 5.3L V-8 give drivers the option of operating them on ethanol/gasoline blends, up to a maximum of 85 percent ethanol.

Silverado Payload Capacity

The Silverado's payload capacities range from 1,295 pounds for the light duty trucks to 4,047 pounds for 2500 models. Fuel Economy

Fuel use projections for the 2WD 1500 Silverado models were in the range of 16 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway. Four-wheel drive vehicles were lower by a few mpg in each class.

Silverado SS 2WD Truck

The 2006 Silverado SS is available in a two-wheel drive configuration that delivers 8,100-pounds of towing ability.
The Silverado SS gets its styling from the 1500 Series Extended Cab with a short bed and is powered by a high-output version of the Vortec 6000 V-8, which produces 345 horsepower. The truck's four-speed automatic overdrive transmission works with a 4.10 locking rear axle to help put the power to the ground when you need it.

• Chrome and black tubular assist steps made from durable stainless steel with textured polymer step pads for foot traction.
• A grille made of chrome mesh surrounded by your choice of a chrome or body-colored housing. Available in Victory Red, Olympic White and Black.

Interior trim kits are an easy way to customize the truck's cabin. The new trims, available in carbon fiber, brushed aluminum and burled wood appearance, as well as gray and brown leather-look, are meticulously manufactured to ensure the right fit when they replace the original pieces. New interior trim pieces are available for the center console and instrument panel.
A performance exhaust is available to replaces the factory exhaust, providing a more aggressive sound and large-diameter interchangeable tips.
