Living room furniture is one thing that should last for quite some time after you purchase it. Sometimes however, you may begin to notice wear and tear on your furniture long before it's time. While it is important to choose the right kind of living room furniture in order to prevent early wear and tear, it is even more important that you take care of your furniture so that you can get the fullest and longest use possible from it. You can do this easily if you take a few simple precautions.
The most important thing that you should take into consideration with living room furniture is what type of use will come out of it. If you have children in the home or entertain guests often, then you can expect to have a rather high amount of use for your furniture and you will need to plan accordingly. This does not mean that you should place €do not use€ signs on your furniture, it simply means that you should take the right steps necessary to protect your furniture from this high levels of use.
One of the most common things that can occur from having many guests or children in your home is drink spills. Red or other colored drinks can be hard to get out of materials and fabrics, especially if they are lighter in color. There are 3 ways that you can help to protect your furniture from drink spills. One way is to purchase covers for your couch and love-seats or put plastic over them. The covers come in many sizes and colors so that you can match them perfectly to your furniture and other decor in the room. Another way, if you don't want to go this route is, you can add a stain resistant spray to the fabric. Stain resistant spray can be purchased in most furniture stores and is fairly reasonable in price. Lastly, you may want to establish some sort of €no drinks€ rule for your living area. This is the most guaranteed way to ensure that no drinks are spilled on your living room furniture.
If you want to protect your furniture from other high use wear and tear, you will have to pay close attention to how the furniture is being used. Do not allow children to jump on the cushions of the couch or climb over the back sides as this will damage the furniture as well. Always use drink holders on coffee tables to prevent cup ring stains and keep woods nicely oiled to prevent drying and cracking. Taking care of your living room furniture and taking the proper precautions to protect it from damage will ensure that it will give you many fine years of use.
