Louisiana may be famous for Mardi Gras and the French Quarter, but miles away from New Orleans lies the ever active town of Shreveport. Known for its laid back bayou attitude, this northern Louisiana town has plenty of activities to keep visitors and residents busy each and every day.

Feelin' Lucky?

Time to gather up all that extra change around your apartment and head over one of Shreveport's famous casinos for a great afternoon or night out. Shreveport and the neighboring Bossier City features five riverboat casinos and horseracing track so whether you're there to play the slots, tables or ponies, there's something for everyone.

Shreveport's casinos include the legendary El Dorado, which holds over 1,300 slot machines and 50 table games, including the market's largest poker room. The three-story pavilion also features places to dine, relax at the spa or shop ‘till you drop!

Playing the Ponies

Why not join in the fun of horse racing in person rather than sitting in your apartment watching it on TV? Grab your hat and head on over to Harrahs Louisiana Downs, the state's best known track. Harrah's offers wire-to-wire action of live and simulcast thoroughbred racing for some of the fastest races around. Their May through October schedule allows for a rich blend of horses to take their turn on the track and features the John Franks Turf Course, one of the best in the nation.

Cruising Along

When you live in a community like Shreveport, it's easy to forget the beauty that you are continually surrounded by. On a beautiful sunny day, why not remind yourself with a trip on the historic Red River and Cross Bayou on the Spirit of the Red.

The Spirit of the Red is a 35 passenger boat designed to give each visitor unobstructed views of the water with two observation decks and 360 degree vantage points. The Cross Bayou and Red River have become a habitat for several species of wildlife such as the alligator, blue heron, white egret, kingfisher, sea gulls and various types of snakes and turtles. A day on the Spirit of the Red will certainly give you a different view of Shreveport that you've never imagined. Just don't forget your sunscreen!

Shreveport may be known as the other city in Louisiana, but this community is not lacking in flavor or things to do, it's up to you to decide how you'd like to spend your days on the bayou!
