How to Move All My Gmail to a Hard Drive
- 1). Open the computer's Web browser, and navigate to the Gmail login page. Type your Gmail email and password in the spaces provided, and click the "Sign In" button to sign into your Gmail account.
- 2). Click the "Settings" icon in the upper-right corner of the Gmail home page, and select the "Mail Settings" option from the Settings menu. Click the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab, and select the "Enable IMAP" option. Click the "Save Changes" button to save the changes.
- 3). Double-click the Mac Mail application icon to launch the application. Click the "Mail" tab, and select the "Preferences..." option from the Mail menu. Click the "Accounts" tab, followed by the "+" icon.
- 4). Type your name in the space labeled "Full Name." Type you email address in the space labeled "Email Address." Type the account's password in the space labeled "Password." Click the "Create" button to add the email account to the Mail application. All of your Gmail conversations will now be imported into the Mail application.
- 5). Click the "Mailbox" tab, and select the "New Mailbox..." option from the Mailbox menu. Click the arrow to the right of the "Location" heading, and select "On My Mac" from the drop-down menu. Type a name for the mailbox in the space labeled "Name," and click the "OK" button to create a local mailbox.
- 6). Click the "Gmail" option beneath the "Mailboxes" heading. Click the "Edit" tab, and select the "Select All" option. Click the "Message" tab, move your mouse cursor over the "Copy To..." option, and select the local mailbox you created in step five. All of your Gmail conversations will now be saved to the computer's hard drive in the local mailbox folder.

- 3). Click the arrow beneath the "Incoming E-mail Server Type" heading and select "IMAP" from the drop-down menu. Type "imap.gmail.com" in the space labeled "Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server." Type "smtp.gmail.com" in the space labeled "Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name." Place a checkmark next to the "Outgoing server requires authentication" option. Click the "Next" button. Type your Gmail email address and password in the spaces provided and click the "Next" button, followed by the "Finish" button.
- 4). Select the "imap.gmail.com" option and click the "Properties" option. Click the "Advanced" tab and type "465" in the space labeled "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)." Place a checkmark next to the "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" option. Type "995" next to the " Incoming mail (IMAP)" option and place a checkmark next to the "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" option.
- 5). Click the "Apply" button, followed by the "OK" button to save the changes. All of your Gmail conversations will now be imported into the Windows Mail application and saved in the Windows Mail App Data folder.
