How to Dry Peaches in an Oven
- 1). Preheat the oven to its lowest setting or a temperature below 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2). Wash the peaches under cold running water.
- 3). Peel the skin from the peaches with a sharp knife or vegetable peeler.
- 4). Slice the peaches in half and pull out the pits.
- 5). Cut the peach halves into uniformly sized slices.
- 6). Dip each peach slice into a bowl filled with a solution of ascorbic acid and water. Follow the specific instructions provided with the ascorbic acid. Most brands call for adding the crushed tablets or powder to a specified amount of water.
- 7). Lay the peach slices on top of a nonstick baking sheet. Keep the slices separated so they don't overlap.
- 8). Place the baking sheet in the oven and keep the door propped open slightly. If possible, place a fan in front of the opening so the air blows into the oven and towards the racks. Keep it running on low throughout the drying time to improve airflow.
- 9). Watch the peaches for signs they are dry. They should appear smaller and feel completely dry. Drying times vary widely by the humidity in your home, temperature of the oven and the size and moisture content of the peach slices. Typically, the slices oven-dry in about eight to 16 hours.
