Nothing Grows Under A Banyan Tree
The Banyan Tree is native to India and lands of similar latitude and climate. As the tree grows, branches and off-shoots dangle from existing branches until they reach the ground, at this point those off-shoots take root essentially creating another trunk of the same tree. Given time, a single Banyan tree may have multiple trunks and interconnect interwoven branches. In fact, large Banyan trees may cover more than an acre.
Though this may seem like a good analogy for a prosperous, spreading business model, numerous negative connotations are often associated with the Banyan tree. For one thing, certain species of Banyan trees are referred to as "strangler fig." Also, nothing can grow under the shadows or in the root system of a large, old Banyan. The tree, though it creates its own mini-habitat, kills off all other surrounding plant life.
There is an old saying attributed of people of India or Africa, "Nothing Grows under a Banyan Tree." Basically, a person, or business enterprise, cannot survive alone.
This is an age of interdependence. Even the entrepreneur is not immune. We all need to put teams of people or systems in place to facilitate growth and success. Entrepreneurs are primarily idea people; those who achieve inspiration and vision. They are not always finishers however. The truly prosperous surrounds himself (or herself) with a team.
Perhaps technology or marketing are difficult concepts. You may have a brilliant idea or course of study or eBook but no method of delivery. Perhaps you are an excellent organizer or social media expert but have difficulty coming up with original content. A VA (Virtual Assistant) can run the organizational side of your enterprise. There are conferences to attend and learn from. People specializing in video or ghost writing can be of benefit to you. You can out-source jobs to willing people in places like India or the Philippines.
Also, you may find joining a membership group beneficial. This is where entrepreneurs band together. Communities do exist wherein members share resources, ideas, and areas of expertise. Perhaps a Google group or membership site will help you fit all the pieces into place. There is a time for assistance. There is a time to ask for what you cannot do alone. Surround yourself with others who excel in areas wherein you are weak; trade resources and knowledge to the advancement and profit of both.
Lastly, if you are new (or even not so new) to the world of entrepreneurship, seek out a knowledgeable mentor, someone who can guide and motivate you and steer you in the right direction. Mentors have a vast reservoir of knowledge, experience, as well as business contacts. Just remember that mentorship is not a one-way street. Learn and serve one another.
Business ventures that start alone often die alone. We need one another to finish strong and share knowledge. Build your team to maximize your talents and ideas. Remember, no man is an island or a Banyan tree.
