How to Clean & Install a Windows 2000 Upgrade CD
- 1). Apply a thin layer of toothpaste to the CD surface. Allow to sit for a few minutes and rinse under running water. Wipe it clean, going in straight motions from the center outwards. Dry the CD thoroughly with a soft cloth.
- 2). Insert the Windows 2000 CD into the drive. Shut down and restart the computer. Press any key at the reboot screen. When the Windows Install screen comes up, press "Enter" to start the installation process and accept the user agreement.
- 3). Configure the hard drive. Choose a new partition or the one that is already highlighted and press "Enter." Choose either the NTFS or FAT filing system and press "Enter". NTFS is recommended for Windows 2000 due to its greater security and compression.
- 4). Configure the regional options. Adjust the location, language, and currency if necessary. Click "Apply" and "OK."
- 5). Enter the product key. This number is located on the CD's case. Click "Next" after entering the key. Windows 2000 cannot be installed legally without a product key, so it's important to have this number.
- 6). Choose a computer name and administrator password. Click "Next," and adjust the system date and time. Click "Next." Windows Setup Wizard will start network configuration, which can be custom or default. Choose "Default" or configure manually to complete the Windows 2000 installation process.
