How to Remove Soot Marks From Carpet
- 1). Sprinkle baking soda on the stain so it is completely covered. Let it sit for at least one hour.
- 2). Vacuum up the baking soda. Most of the surface soot will come with it, but a gray stain will still show on the carpet.
- 3). Pour dry-cleaning solvent onto a sponge or cloth. Wear gloves when you do this. Dab the solvent onto the stain. The dry-cleaning solvent allows you to remove the stain without wetting it.
- 4). Continue blotting with dry-cleaning solvent until the stain is gone. Add more solvent and change sponges as needed.
