Whether you have your own horses or ponies you want to take on holiday with you, or you simply want to hire some horses and get out amongst the natural world for a few days, horse riding holidays can be rewarding and fun for all the family. Horse riding holidays are great for your fitness, but they are also a wonderful way to relax and spend some quality time together doing something really nice as a family. Here we look at some great areas of the country where you can enjoy an idyllic riding holiday this summer.

The Peak District

Famous for its beautiful hills and valleys, its reservoirs, its dry stone walls and its picturesque, winding roads, the Peak District is a very popular place to go for outdoor holidays. Full of fascinating and historical villages like Buxton, amazing caves to explore, and some of the prettiest landscapes in England, it offers a great setting for a riding holiday and also has plenty of charming places to stay. A lot of people in this area keep horses, so you will also have no problems finding stables, equestrian vets and riding gear suppliers in this area. The only downside is that the weather can be a little bleak, however if you go at the height of summer you should find it is still sunny and warm.

Dorset

If you prefer the slightly warmer weather and coastal scenery of the South Coast, then Dorset is a great place to go. Easy to get to from London and the home counties, this can be an easy trip for your horse box and when you get there there is plenty to enjoy. You can explore the New Forest (which actually has its own wild ponies - a real treat to see for horse mad kids) and the beaches and cliffs down on the coast.

North Wales

North Wales has a lot of regions where riding holidays are very popular, whether you want to explore the hills or head to the coast. Easily accessible if you live in the North of England, but different enough to make the trip worthwhile, North Wales provides a really nice backdrop to a summer riding holiday.

All of these regions are popular with horse riding enthusiasts, so if you don't have horses of your own, you can find stables and companies that will help match you up with some horses suited to your size and experience.
