Travel writing is a dream career for a million writers. And yes, there are innumerable of them in the industry that want to be the most or best paid. As far as the profession of travel writing is concerned, people love the idea of working from far flung places and the untold terrains of the world. The travel writer wants to spin stories of a forgotten lane or an era of romance that started at an exotic place. He wants to give the world a mystery where all one has read about pertains to boring subjects and a non-convincing history. While most want to be at the pinnacle in this aspect of writing, a very few are able to make it there, easily. Below are five tips for those who are seeking the top of the ladder in this industry:

1.Don't Write it Like a Journal: Your travel writing is not like a piece of tissue that you can wipe your emotional splatter with. It's rather a piece that should be capable in forming a connect with the place. So while you may want to touch on the aspect of romance in Italy, Florence or Khandala, just keep it restricted to your romance with the place.

2.Don't Write in Bits: While most of the times you would be tempted to practice the 'Day1, Day2..) approach it's justified if you don't want to stick to the traditional ways of approaching things. Take a road less travelled but make sure that you do complete justice to it. Your transition from one idea to another or from one experience to another must be as smooth as a road carpeted with solid ice. Don't make it slippery though.

3.Don't Get Lost in the Travel: And even if you do, find yourself in your writing. Writing a piece that shapes from travel experiences is what writing on travel is about. The funny thing is that once you get into the groove of writing, you will be able to spin stories about a far away land without budging an inch from your place. Of course, you must get the facts right, but that's just the most basic requirement of your profile.

4.Don't Make Promises Half-Heartedly: If you have told your audience that you will be updating the next travelogue this week, do give them one in the next week. If you've promised an article on Europe (with original pictures) don't cheat on your readers. All in all, don't over promise and under deliver.

5.Don't Try Too Hard: This is in fact true with most of aspects of writing. If you try too hard, you will end up writing either an extremely ordinary piece or one that jumps over a hundred brains, rendering the effort useless.

Everything said and done, whilst you learn how to conquer every roadblock on your way to travel writing, there is one that not even the pros have been able to drift away from. The writer's block - that's the address of the place where every woe of a writer lives. Take it with a pinch of salt and a leisurely retreat. Soon you shall have another experience to write about.
