Contact Paper - Uses of a Versatile Material

Although it seems a strange and outdated product to some- a thin sheet of vinyl with an adhesive backing used for decoration or other purposes- contact paper still arguably remains a relevant product today.
Of course, it would be made much more relevant if it were to be made from a non-toxic, sustainable material, but that's not going to stop a lot of people from appreciating its usefulness.
The main benefits offered by contact paper are that it is an easy and cheap way to cover surfaces for decoration or protection.
Given the wide range of designs and patterns of the 'paper' available, it is easy to find something that can enrich your home surroundings.
I always prefer things that are both beautiful and practical and would look at contact paper that fulfills both these criteria first.
One of the most useful is chalkboard contact paper 18 x 6.
That's a six foot roll 18" wide, and it makes a fine writing surface indeed, if you make sure to put it on a smooth surface.
The thing to remember about contact paper, and one of the things that makes it so versatile, is that it can be cut into any size or shape of your choosing.
So you could cover your wall with it, making a big chalkboard, or you could cut it smaller and make it a portable chalkboard that your kids can take with them wherever they go.
You could cover an object, like a box, with it, creating a box that you can use as a chalkboard.
The possibilities are almost endless.
You might also choose to make labels from left over material.
Such labels would have the benefit of being easily erased and reused.
Wood grain contact paper can be used purely for decoration, as when people use them for shelf lining.
However, they can also be used to patch up damaged areas on wood furniture or other wooden objects around the home.
The trick here is to match the color and the grain pattern, and again you have the benefit of being able to isolate the part on the paper that features grain most compatible with the area you are trying to cover.
Keep in mind that although the pattern is wood, the material is usually still vinyl, so texturally any repairs done with the paper will feel different from the original material.
